UPDATE: Palm Desert man charged in alleged carjacking
Carjacking and drug charges were filed today against a man who was found on Christmas Eve in a vehicle he allegedly stole the previous week in Palm Desert.
Jesus Leone Sanchez Gutierrez, 21, of Palm Desert, is charged with one felony count each of carjacking, possession of controlled substances for sale, transportation and sale of methamphetamine, along with a misdemeanor charge of willful and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
Sanchez Gutierrez was arrested at 1:52 p.m. last Saturday during a “high-risk traffic stop” in the 72000 block of Highway 111, said sheriff’s Sgt. Jeronimo Contreras.
Sanchez-Gutierrez allegedly committed a carjacking in Palm Desert on Dec. 18, then was found by deputies in the stolen vehicle on Dec. 24 while in possession of meth and Xanax.
Sanchez Gutierrez was being held in lieu of $60,000 bail at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside pending arraignment this afternoon.

Original Story: A carjacking suspect was in custody after he was spotted in Palm Desert in a vehicle that had been reported stolen, authorities said.
Jesus Leone Sanchez Gutierrez, 21, of Palm Desert, was arrested at 1;52 p.m. Saturday in a high-risk traffic stop in the 72000 block of Highway 111, said Palm Desert police Sgt. Jeronimo Contreras.
The vehicle had been carjacked in that city, Contreras said. Gutierrez was arrested for suspicion of carjacking and possession and transportation of narcotics for sale, the sergeant said. He was booked into the Indio Jail.
