Minor arrested Thursday following police search in Cathedral City

UPDATE: CCPD says they arrested a 13 year old suspect who was carrying a loaded weapon and fled from the police.

According to a statement released by CCPD, at around 2:44 p.m. officers attempted to speak to a subject who may have been armed in the area of 33 rd Avenue and Moreno Road. When officers contacted the subject, he fled and officers saw the firearm in the suspect’s waistband.

The officers chased the suspect and set up a perimeter in the area. Officers searched the area and located the suspect hiding in a trash can in the 68700 block of Ocotillo Road. It was discovered the suspect was a 13 yr old male (he will not be identified due to his age).

Officers continued to search the area and found the firearm hidden in another trash can nearby. The suspect was arrested for possessing a loaded and concealed firearm and resisting arrest (by running). Due to his age, he was released to his parents pending a court date.

Orginal Story: Police activity has been reported on the 68-000 block of Cedar Road in Cathedral City, near 33rd Avenue and Moreno Road at around 2:50 p.m.

Several officers with weapons have been seen in the area.
