Hiker airlifted from local trail

A hiker is recovering Saturday after needing to be rescued from a Mecca trail.

It happened Friday afternoon when county firefighters received reports of a hiker down near Box Canyon and Painted Canyon roads. The hiker was in a hard to reach location for first responders, so they called in the chopper to land nearby and airlift the hiker out.

The hiker was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
