Man accused of assaulting neighbor released on bail following SWAT standoff in Palm Desert
Riverside County Sheriff's Deputies responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon Saturday morning.
Law enforcement arrived at the Desert Oasis Apartments on Country Club Drive in Palm Desert just after 8:00 a.m.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department said a victim was walking with his son when his neighbor approached them, threatened them, and injured one of the victims with the gun.
The suspect then ran and hid inside his apartment and refused to come out peacefully.
Nearby residents were temporarily evacuated for safety concerns.
After an hours-long standoff, a SWAT team entered the suspect's apartment and located him inside the attic, after a search warrant was issued.
The suspect was transported to an area hospital for dehydration and booked into jail for assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats and resisting arrest.
He was then released Sunday after posting $25,000 bail, according to inmate records.
A woman was also arrested after it was discovered she assisted the suspect in attempting to evade law enforcement. She was booked into jail for being an accessory and resisting, obstructing or delaying an investigation.
