Gender of baby jaguar revealed at The Living Desert

It’s a boy!

Saturday, The Living Desert revealed the gender of their newborn baby jaguar.

A huge crowd gathered for the reveal as the cub’s dad, Memo, did the honors.

While Memo had no problem eating the meat on the cardboard cake, getting to the colored popcorn inside was a different story.

But eventually he tipped over the box revealing blue popcorn, signifying the cub is a boy.

“We knew we wanted to do something special,” Roxanna Breitigan, Director of Animal Programs at The Living Desert said. “This is a big birth for us. For the conservation of jaguars, and to really help them, so we wanted to make it special. We knew this was something a lot of people could relate to, and we thought it was great that Memo can help us doing that, and what better way than to have the dad help us reveal that gender.”

The cub was born on January 26th, and he will stay in the den until the mother decides it’s time to come out.
