Juvenile arrested in Palm Springs shooting released
A 17-year-old boy arrested in the shooting of two other teens in Palm Springs was out of custody, while his alleged 19-year-old accomplice remained jailed on attempted murder charges, Palm Springs police said Monday.
The unidentified teen was released “pending additional investigation” said Palm Springs Sgt. William Hutchinson, in connection with the March 9 shooting of two male teens in the 400 block of South Indian Canyon Drive.
A second suspect, 19-year-old Desert Hot Springs resident Sandra Herrera, was charged with two counts of attempted murder last Wednesday, as well as possession of an unregistered firearm. She pleaded not guilty to all charges and will return to court Friday for a felony settlement conference.
Police responded around 9:30 p.m. March 9 and found two juvenile victims suffering from gunshot wounds. They were taken to a hospital, and were expected to recover from their injuries.
Herrera was arrested the following day in Cathedral City, where police also found the gun allegedly used in the shooting. The 17-year-old suspect was also arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of an unregistered firearm.
