Police clean up after big rig collision scatters debris on I-10
Emergency responders were on scene of a collision involving two big rig semi trucks Friday morning on Interstate 10, just west of Palm Springs.
The collision was reported in the freeway’s eastbound lanes at Tipton Road in Whitewater, at 5:40 a.m. just west of the Highway 62 interchange.
No injuries were reported, but debris from the big trucks was scattered across all of the eastbound freeway’s lanes blocking traffic. Westbound traffic lanes were not impacted by the wreck.
One of the big trucks was in the center divide. The other was on the right shoulder.
Traffic was backed up in the eastbound lanes for more than two miles back to the Highway 111 eastbound interchange. Several other resulting collisions were also reported in the traffic backup.
The freeway was reduced to one lane through much of the morning, but the left three lanes were re-opened to traffic just before 9:30 a.m.
