Large wildfire in Mecca closes street

Officials from the Riverside County Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol were working Sunday night to contain a large wildfire in Mecca.

The fire was reported just after 5:36 p.m. and was burning off of Pierce Street, between 66th and 70th avenues. Smoke could be seen as far away as La Quinta.

The roadway at Pierce Street in between 66th and 70th is closed down.
