San Bernardino parents react to elementary school shooting
Parents react after one eight-year-old student and their teacher were fatally shot by the teacher’s husband in a murder-suicide at an elementary school in San Bernardino.
Hundreds of parents nervously waited outside of Cajon High School to be reunited with their children.
“It is stressing because I have him here, I have my grandkids at Hill Side and my next door neighbor’s son goes to North Park so it’s very scary.” said concerned parent Martha Vazquez. Vazquez said that as soon as her neighbor heard the news, they took off to the school.
That same story echoed from hundreds of parents trying to figure out how to get their children who were at North Park elementary school.

“It was a horrible feeling my adrenaline was high and my blood pressure was high and I was thinking about the safety of my daughter,” said Roslyn Overstreet.
Witnesses say it was equally chaotic outside of the elementary school when emergency crews arrived. “
“With parents, nobody knew what was going on. The first thought is what happened in San Bernardino not too long so for me it’s kind of crazy,” said Pastor Sal Martinez of the North Park Baptist Church.
After the apparent murder-suicide — kids were taken to Cal State San Bernardino then were brought back to the high school. Parents had to stand in line and fill out paperwork to get their kids.
“As soon as you get here they immediately tell you that you need to have your ID if you don’t have your ID you can’t pick up your kid,” said Overstreet.
The children arrived at the high school to the sounds of cheers. Now parents and the community look to help these children who went through an extremely traumatic event.
“It’s that post-traumatic stress I guess that people get from a situation like this and us parents us, adults, it’s hard for us to wrap our minds around it. I’m just imagining what the kids are going through,” said Pastor Martinez.
Councilors will be available to help students and faculty deal with any problems they may have.
