Community comes together after SB shootings take three lives

The shooting death of an 8-year-old boy at North Park Elementary school on Monday has the San Bernardino community coming together for the family.

“It was so awful. I’m so thankful that my son is spared but at the same time, I’m really sad for the other families because it’s a loss that none of us will ever know,” Frank Flores said.

Flores was one of many parents who spent the day waiting for their children after a shooter took his own life and the lives of a North Park Elementary school teacher and 8-year-old male student.

“This is a time when we do stand strong and we do stand together and a time we overcome the hatred with grace and peace,” said San Bernardino City Unified School District Superintendent Dale Marsden.

“May we as a community rally around them in support and prayer. There’s little we can say to comfort so we stand with you,” said San Bernardino Mayor, R. Carey Davis.

People prayed and lit candles outside with a message of hope to one day bring comfort to the families who are grieving.

During the vigil, church leaders reminded the community that they will stand strong once again.

“Sometimes all we can do is cry and today’s the day for that. we’ll get up again, we’ll move stronger but today is the day to cry,” said Mayor Davis.

A prayer walk will take place 5:30p.m.on April 27th in an effort to end gun violence. The walk will start at St. Bernardine’s Catholic Church located at 531 N. F Street, San Bernardino, CA 92410.
