CHP warn motorists about high wind and heavy traffic

Authorities responded to Highway 111 near the Windy Point area after a big rig overturned Monday morning, blocking both southbound lanes of the highway. The Palm Springs Police Department have shut down southbound Highway 111 between I-10 and Palm Springs while authorities work to clear the scene.

It happened at about 10:30 a.m. on the southbound lanes of Highway 111. California Highway Patrol confirmed that wind played a factor in this crash.

Tips for driving in high wind:

Anticipate random gusts. While you may be driving in mild wind conditions, anticipate random gusts. A strong gust of wind could push your car into another lane or overturn a high-profile vehicle; Be aware of larger vehicles on the road. Give them plenty of space as they are more susceptible to high winds and may have trouble staying in their lane; Always keep a firm grip on the wheel

Traffic is expected to be heavy once again as tens of thousands of people leave the valley following the second weekend of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival.
