Man in custody for alleged armed robbery of Palm Springs restaurant

A 21-year-old man was arrested today for allegedly robbing a Palm Springs restaurant at gunpoint.

Deshawn Celestine was booked on suspicion of second-degree robbery at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility and held in lieu of $30,000 bail, according to Sgt. William Hutchinson.

Celestine allegedly entered a restaurant in the 2500 block of East Tahquitz Canyon Way at 9:41 p.m. Monday, flashed a handgun and demanded money from the employees, then made his getaway on a bicycle.

He was spotted at 6:37 this morning near Sunrise Way and Ramon Road and detained by an officer, and later positively identified as the restaurant robbery suspect, Hutchinson said.
