Early morning freeway delays at Jefferson Interchange

UPDATE: As of 5:45 a.m. the freeway has reopened and backed-up traffic to Washington Street was beginning to clear.

————-

Motorists were being detoured off Interstate 10 early Wednesday morning in Indio as construction crews worked to demolish the old Indio Boulevard freeway overpass at the new Jefferson Street interchange.

The freeway’s eastbound lanes were shut down at the Jefferson eastbound exit and traffic was detouring to Varner Road, then back onto the freeway at Monroe Street.

Westbound freeway lanes were open.

Motorists coming from Indio Boulevard and Jefferson Street in La Quinta faced no delays getting on the freeway westbound.

As of 5:30 a.m. eastbound freeway traffic was backed up to Washington Street.
