Cabazon man who crashed stolen truck dies in hospital
The California Highway Patrol is investigating after two people were injured following a rollover crash in a stolen truck. An unidentified male was driving a Ford Ranger southbound on Highway 111 when he lost control of the vehicle near Overture Drive.
The crash happened at about 5:40 a.m.
The driver was ejected and was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries. A 19-year-old passenger was also injured in the crash.
Officers said while investigating the collision, the owner of the truck reported that it had been stolen. The driver wasn’t taken into custody due to his injuries. As the investigation continues, charges may be filed, the CHP said in a release.
It’s unknown if alcohol and/or druges were a factor in the crash. Both the driver and passenger weren’t wearing seat belts. Both southbound lanes of Highway 111 were closed until 7:05 a.m.
