Horse dies after being struck by car in Coachella

A horse has died after being struck by a car at Van Buren Street and 49th Avenue in Coachella, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Animal Control responded to the scene Tuesday afternoon.

There were no road closures during the incident.

Authorities said the horse escaped from its enclosure and was running through the streets when was hit by a Toyota Camry. The driver of the car wasn’t hurt. Authorities said they’re planning to cite the horse’s owners for not properly keeping it confined.
