Fire breaks out in kitchen of mobile home in Cathedral City
Firefighters have put out a fire that ignited in the kitchen of a mobile home in Cathedral City Wednesday morning.
It happened in the Desert Sands Mobile Home Park on Via Verde near Date Palm Drive just after 8 a.m. a neighbor called 911 after hearing the fire alarm.
Authorities said the flames spread to the living room. Fortunately nobody was home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
We spoke to Donald Bush, a close friend of the family that lives nearby. He said the couple just bought the home a few months ago and were getting ready to remodel.
“There’s a lot of damage, a lot of the ceilings, a lot of the dry wall, the whole kitchen is burned,” Bush said.
Cal Fire responded to assist Cathedral City firefighters with dousing the flames. Officials said the fire caused an estimated $40,000 in damage. The residents are expected to be out of the home for awhile due to the damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
KESQ and CBS Local 2 will have updates when we hear back from Cal Fire officials.
