Firefighters battling brush fire near Beaumont

A brush fire burned at least 12 acres Sunday in Lambs Canyon, south of Beaumont.

The fire was reported at 12:51 p.m. beside Highway 79 south of Dump Road, in an unincorporated area south of Beaumont, said Tawny Cabral of the Riverside County Fire Department.

The first-arriving chief reported that the fire was spreading uphill at a “slow to moderate” rate.

By 2:56 p.m., the fire had been 50 percent contained, Cabral said.

At least one lane of Route 79 was blocked, but the road between Hemet and Beaumont was open to traffic as of 3:20 p.m.
