Family confirms body of missing former Shadow Hills High teacher found

Family members have concluded the search for Alfredo “Fredo” Rodriguez, after they said his body was found Sunday afternoon.

Rodriguez’s niece, Lynette Vasquez, released this statement Sunday night on behalf of the family:

“It’s with a heavy heart that we want to inform you that there is no longer a search in progress for Alfredo Rodriguez. He is with the Lord now. At this point the family asks to please keep them in your prayers and respect their privacy during this difficult time. Revelation 21:4 “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies said authorities found a body matching Rodriguez’s general description just after 12:30 p.m. in the unincorporated area of French Valley, close to his Winchester home.

Rodriguez, 45, was last seen near the intersection of Cottonwood Street and Washington Street at about 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2. He was a longtime resident of Indio.

He was a teacher at both Shadow Hills High School and Cahuilla Desert Academy. He also coached Special Education children at CDA’s afterschool program.

His family said he left home on foot with no wallet, cell phone, or keys. His family was concerned for his safety and well-being as he recently has become mentally despondent and showing signs of diminished capacity and confusion, authorities said in a release.

He never left home like this before and has no criminal history or drug/alcohol abuse.

His family coordinated search efforts in the Coachella Valley, in addition to the Sheriff’s Department searching in western Riverside County.

Rodriguez’s son tweeted Sunday afternoon, after his father’s body was found.

Deputies said they’re waiting for the Riverside County Coroner’s Office to confirm the identity.

Family members said a memorial will be held Tuesday night.
