Explosive fire in Indio caught on camera

An Indio business was open Tuesday morning after a fire which caused an explosion.

A Riverside County CalFire spokesman said two dumpsters were on fire outside Harbor Freight Tools.

The resulting fire scorched an exterior wall.

It was caught on video by KESQ News Channel 3 / CBS Local 2 News viewers who witnessed it.

Cal Fire said the fire was reported at around 12:30 a.m. along the 82100 block of Highway 111, and took 2 minutes to extinguish.

The business is located at the west end of the Indio Fashion Mall.

Gabriella Austin, a viewer, was eating at a nearby Denny’s when she saw the fire.

Austin said she took out her cell phone and started recording, capturing the explosion.

She said she saw fire engines, police, but no ambulances.

There’s no word on the amount of damage that was caused or any injuries, but the business was open Tuesday morning. Questions about the fire were being referred to the company’s headquarters.
