Traffic still slow-going on EB I-10 after fiery big rig crash
A big rig hauling furniture crashed and caught fire on the freeway in Chiriaco Summit Friday, leading to a shutdown of all lanes while firefighters attended to the blaze. And traffic was still very slow-going through the area as of 3 p.m.
Officers initially thought the roadway would be open early in the afternoon.

Firefighters responded at 7:05 a.m. to eastbound Interstate 10, west of Cottonwood Springs Road, where a semi-truck hit a guardrail and became engulfed in flames. County fire crews have since contained the fire, but were expected to remain on scene for several hours for mop up, April Newman of the Riverside County Fire Department said.

One lane was reopened at about 9:20 a.m. and officers are allowing drivers to use the right-hand shoulder of the road to get through the congestion.
The destroyed truck led a SigAlert to be issued at 7:14 a.m., with debris blocking both eastbound lanes. One lane was reopened to traffic just after 9 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
