Streets named to honor 2 high school students for hard work

Two high school students were honored Monday morning for their hard work in school. And it’s something you’ll see around town as the students had streets named after them. KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2’s Jeremy Chen has more on their outstanding efforts.

Benjamin Godinez of Mount San Jacinto High School & Mark Vogt, a senior at Cathedral City High School were honored for their hard work in school with shiny new blue street signs.

“It’s unbelievable…I never thought it would be me…but yeah…it’s crazy,” said Godinez.

Godinez was able to study hard and graduate from high school early and land a full-time job in construction, doing it all while taking care of his one-year-old son.

“Seeing him every day made me not give up and just do my best for him..and just to keep going forward and never fall back,” said Godinez.

Mark Vogt was chosen by his teachers for this honor and is excited to take a trek down in his car.

“All my friends are like whoa…I’m so excited…I get to drive down your street and I’m like me too.”

Vogt is graduating with top honors in academics and had to balance being the drum major of the marching band and four years of varsity tennis. He credits the support from his family.

These students will not only be able to have bragging rights and be able to impress their friends, their names are going to be up on these signs for at least a year.

Vogt says he’ll be attending Brigham Young University after he graduates and Godinez says he’ll attending College of the Desert in order to pursue a career in law enforcement.
