Digicom Learning selected May Spotlight Grant recipient

Technology is everywhere we look these days and many of us find ourselves with our heads buried in our smartphones. Digicom Learning says for students in its programs, that’s a good thing.

“They’re all very connected. They all spend time on the internet, so we give them an opportunity to make meaningful projects that they share out there,” CEO and founder David Vogel said.

Students are taught how to use technology to express themselves in school.

“What we do is show them how they can use them for writing and creating projects. For completing assignments and express what it is that they want to share with the world,” Vogel said.

Digicom has primarily been incorporated in Palm Springs Unified schools. Now, thanks to a $25,000 grant from the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation, it is now moving east, starting at Indio High School.

“We’re able to move into the other school districts and we’re going to start here in this very classroom. We’re going to have a writing workshop this summer,” Vogel said.

Students say they are thrilled about the opportunity.

Digicom’s programs give students “the freedom to explore different media pathways and anything you might think of in the industry and pathways and projects,” senior Markus Clipper said.

Some students hoping to pursue a career in technology.

“Technology is more incorporated in our daily lives and I can’t think of a better career option that includes something that everyone uses every day, in a variety of fields,” junior Perla Vidana said.

Digicom learning is now helping them on that path.
