Pro-Trump rally kicks off Fourth of July in Palm Springs

Some people in Palm Springs kicked off their Fourth of July afternoon at a pro-Trump rally.

“I’m glad though he’s supporting the conservative movement, getting back to supporting our country, our workers. Wanting to see things made in America, bought in America,” said Michael Harrington.

The event garnered roughly 14 people at Ruth Hardy Park and was held to support the president and honor the nation’s Independence Day.

“I think he’s doing excellent. He’s trying very hard to do everything he’s promised to do throughout the run,” Charles McDonald told KESQ News Channel 3’s and CBS Local 2’s Katie Widner. “This country is the greatest country on earth. Always has been. So many people have been blessed by this nation.”

Organizer Michael Santa Cruz said the rally was not held in a show of protest, or to engage in a debate with anti-Trump advocates.

“We’re not really here to fight or debate or do anything. We just really want to bring unity back into California to really work on important issues that really effect all of us and all of our communities, especially here in the Valley,” said Cruz. “I know a lot of people, just basically, no matter what their political affiliation is, support Fourth of July, so I just wanted to do something that wold actually bring people together to actually have a rally to kick off their Fourth of July celebration.”

Where can I buy legal fireworks in the Coachella Valley? However, not everyone who showed up was unified in their beliefs.

“I came just to see what kind of support the Trump, organization had, and obviously, not very much,” said Michael Procaro, who sported an Obama hat and labeled himself a progressive.

A planned march was canceled and the event ended early due to the heat and a lack of attendees.

“They’re not here to celebrate the Fourth. They here to support Trump and that was their main platform,” Procaro said. “Not only is Trump degrading the presidency, I think he’s really damaging the country.”

Santa Cruz said the next rally will be held in November.

The event was put on by #July4Trump. According a release from rally organizers, #July4Trump is supported, sponsored and endorsed by #PalmSprings4Trump and is about celebrating our Great Nations Independence and freedoms, as well as putting America First again, and that also includes us… Putting All of the Great People of America First Again! We hope you enjoy and have a great & fun time at our event. Happy 4th of July, America!’
