Deadly La Quinta crash sparks brush fire
One person is dead following a traffic collision in La Quinta that caused a car to burst into flames, igniting a small vegetation fire.
According to CAL FIRE/Riverside County, it happened at 3:31 p.m. Saturday afternoon on Avenue 62, west of Monroe Street. The first arriving engine company reported that a single vehicle, which the California Highway Patrol identified as a brown Honda, had crashed into a fence and was fully engulfed in flames. The fire extended into nearby vegetation, causing burns to an area 30 ft. x 30 ft. in size.
The collision reportedly resulted in one fatality. No other details have been released. KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 has reached out to the CHP for more details and are waiting to hear back.
The fire was contained by 4:05 p.m.. Firefighters will remain on scene for approximately one hour.
