SCE cancels planned power outages in Cathedral City this week
Officials with Southern California Edison have confirmed to KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 that power outages that were scheduled in Cathedral City this week have now been canceled.
This is the second time planned power outages have been canceled recently by the utility company due to scorching heat. SCE pulled all planned power outages in June as well.
Many customers have been crying foul as a scorching heat wave has kept the Coachella Valley under extreme heat advisories.
“This is ridiculous, we ought to be able to live here in the desert with power, heat, and light,” said SCE customer Carol Evans.
Nearby hotels, including the Double Tree Hilton Golf Resort, stepped in and offered those impacted reduced rates.
“I can only imagine having lived out here as long as I have to have your air go out with the heat and humidity at the index it is, they and their pets are welcome,” said Doug Watson, General Manager at the Double Tree Hilton Golf Resort.
An offer one SCE customer took advantage of.
“it’s an expense and it’s an added expense for the dog on top of that. and it takes its toll. move on, and come back to us during the winter,” said
Which is exactly what SCE decided to do.
After this past weekend’s report, and being in close contact with SCE, they’ve decided to cancel the outages.
SCE released a statement regarding the cancellation:
“We’ve been reviewing this week’s maintenance outages — which we routinely do during hot weather. After that review, we’ve chosen to cancel these two outages”
The outages will be rescheduled in the fall when the weather is cooler.
The best strategy to deal with an outage is to already have a plan in place. This includes knowing the proper food safety precautions.
Such as freezing refrigerated items ahead of time like leftovers, milk and fresh meat that you may not need immediately. Freezing containers of water for ice to help keep food cold in the freezer and refrigerator.
Keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible to maintain the cold temperature.
