Duplex heavily damaged after fire ignites in Desert Hot Springs
CAL FIRE and Riverside County firefighters responded to reports of a house fire at the 12000 block of Casa Loma Road in Desert Hot Springs just after 4 a.m. Wednesday.
The first crews on scene reported a duplex on fire. People live in one side of the duplex, but crews tell us the other side of the residence was empty. The property manager tells us there were squatters inside the home recently.
CAL FIRE says crews had the flames out within 15 minutes. Six engines came from Desert Hot Springs and surrounding communities. CAL FIRE says the damage is significant with the roof damaged in several areas.
A neighbor named Maria said she was sound asleep when she heard yelling. “I opened up my curtains and oh my God, the flames were bright orange,” she said. Maria added that she was nervous about the fire spreading to her home. “The embers were really flying in my back yard,” she said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
