Aubrey Serfling , President and Chief Executive Officer at Eisenhower Medical Center said in a statement Tuesday morning, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Barbara Sinatra. For more than 30 years, the Barbara Sinatra Center for Abused Children has offered a safe place for children who have been physically, sexually and emotionally abused. It was Barbara and Frank Sinatra’s mission to focus on prevention, community education and breaking the cycle of generational abuse. Most importantly, no child has ever been turned away due to a family’s inability to pay. Barbara, we thank you for your leadership and your continued support and dedication in helping thousands of children. May you rest in peace.
The Annenberg Foundation Trust at Sunnylands: Offers its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Barbara Sinatra. Barbara’s wedding to legendary singer Frank Sinatra on July 11, 1976 made Sunnylands history when they became the first of only three couples to be married at the historic estate of Ambassadors Walter and Leonore Annenberg in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
As longtime friends of the Annenbergs, the Sinatras visited Sunnylands on various occasions, including dinners and New Year’s Eve celebrations. In 2012, Mrs. Sinatra attended a gathering to commemorate the historic importance of Sunnylands as it opened its doors as a retreat center for world leaders. She later loaned her wedding dress, a custom beige chiffon Halston gown, to an exhibition showcasing Sunnylands social events, and subsequently donated the gown permanently to the Sunnylands Collection.
“Memories of Barbara Sinatra at Sunnylands will be long lasting and deeply treasured,” said Janice Lyle, director of Sunnylands Center & Gardens. “Her friendship and humanitarian efforts are warmly remembered by the trustees and staff.”
Mrs. Sinatra’s significant work in the community, including the founding of the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center at the Eisenhower Medical Center campus in Rancho Mirage, will continue on as her lasting legacy in the Coachella Valley and beyond, Lyle said.
