Gavin Nguyen
Gavin Nguyen joined KESQ News Channel 3 as a multimedia journalist and weekend weathercaster in June 2024.
Gavin discovered his passion for storytelling while attending Portola High School in Irvine. He joined his school’s broadcast news program, Portola News Network, in 2017.
Gavin continued at Chapman University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism & Documentary and a minor in Advertising in May 2024.
While studying at Chapman, Gavin spent four semesters with Chapman News, the university’s weekly student-run newscast.
At Chapman News, Gavin honed his journalism, videography, editing, producing, and on-camera skills. He also led the newsroom as an Executive Producer for a semester, where he and his team were nationally recognized with a 2023 Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Award for breaking news reporting.
In his free time, Gavin enjoys rooting for the Dodgers, photography, video games, and anime.
Gavin is a Southern California kid. Raised in Irvine, CA by a Vietnamese father and Filipino mother, Gavin is excited to represent his Asian-American heritage. He’s excited to explore the desert and tell the stories of the Coachella Valley.
