CONSUMER ALERT: Lead Reportedly Found In Lipstick

There are concerns about high levels of lead in lipstick.

A consumer group called Campaign for Safe Cosmetics found lead in half of the 33 brand names of lipstick tested.

Their report says 20 of the lipsticks contained lead.

Higher levels were found in products made by L’oreal, Cover Girl and Christian Dior.

There is no federal standard for lead in cosmetics.

The advocacy group used the FDA’s limits for lead in candy as a yardstick.

It found one-third of the lipsticks tested exceeded that threshold.
