A magnitude-3.1 earthquake, preceded by two smaller temblors, rattled about 19 miles west of Palm Springs Monday afternoon, but no injuries or damage were reported.

The largest of the quakes was recorded at 2:34 p.m. and was centered four miles southeast of Valle Vista and eight miles east-southeast of Hemet, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The first quake, which had magnitude of 1.9, occurred at 1:55 p.m., followed by a magnitude-2.8 shaker at 2:30 p.m.

“We did not feel or hear a thing here,” said Jody Hagemann, a Perris-based spokeswoman for the Riverside County Fire Department.
