Driver Arrested In Deadly Rollover Crash In Palm Desert
Police have arrested the driver of a vehicle involved in a deadly rollover crash in Palm Desert after investigators found that the man was intoxicated at the time.
The crash happened just around 2:30 AM early Tuesday morning on Fred Waring Drive near Deep Canyon.
The driver, identified as Hollman Gonsales, 20, of Cathedral City, was operating the vehicle at a high rate of speed when he lost control and flipped the vehicle over several times.
A passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the car. Police say that person, a man who has yet to be identified, died at the scene.
Gonsalez and another passenger, David Riviera, 21, of Palm Desert, were taken to an area hospital to be treated with non-life threatening injuries.
Authorities closed down Fred Waring from Portola to Deep Canyon for the whole morning as they investigated the crash.
Investigators then found that Gonsalez may have been intoxicated during the crash. He was arrested at the hospital.
Authorities say he’s being booked into the Indio Jail with manslaughter and felony intoxicated driving charges.
His bail was set at $75,000.
