Rancho Mirage Home Invasion Suspects Arrested
RANCHO MIRAGE – Three men are behind bars on suspicion of a home invasion robbery at the Rancho Mirage Country Club, authorities said.
Jason Hammer, 30, Norman Lee Gant, 28, and John Wayne Wilson, 24, all of Palm Springs, were arrested at 6 p.m. Thursday on suspicion of robbery, attempted murder and torture, according to Indio Jail records.
The robbery occurred around 2 a.m. Thursday in the 100 block of Kavenish Drive.
The victim reported he was confronted by two gunmen wearing dark clothing and bandanas over their faces. He was treated for minor injuries.
Investigators identified Hammer through a surveillance video of him allegedly trying to use a credit card stolen during the robbery shortly after it occurred, said Rancho Mirage police Sgt. David Florez.
Palm Springs police helped investigators identify Gant, who is apparently known to associate with Hammer, Florez said. He said both men have a history of similar crimes.
Investigators kept Hammer’s home under surveillance while they waited for a search warrant.
When Hammer and Gant left the home, they were followed by police, Florez said.
The sergeant said Gant went to another home in Palm Springs and police stopped him a short time later for questioning. He was accompanied by Wilson, who was on parole, Florez said.
All three men were booked into the Indio jail. Gant and Wilson are being held without bail and Hammer is being held in lieu $1 million.
