Search On For DHS Store Killer

DESERT HOT SPRINGS – Authorities have released the name of a man shot dead inside the Desert Hot Springs store he was workingat.

Juan Pablo Munoz-Tovor, 33, was killed Wednesday night when a gunman walked into the Super 1 Food Store on Hacienda Avenue just after 9 p.m.

Authorities said the gunman, described as a black man in his 20s to 30s, shot the clerk with a semi-automatic weapon. The victim was pronounced dead at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.

“It’s very sad,” said a woman who works across the street from the store. “I think it’s really sad that people have to resort to that.”

The woman, who did not want to give her name, said she knows “this neighborhood has issues,” and was not surprised by the shooting.

Police said they have a possible suspect, but did not elaborate.

Witnesses say the suspect was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with black sweatpants. Later Thursday morning, an image from the surveillance video which captured the suspect was released.
