Arrest Made In Pregnant Woman’s Hit-And-Run Death

CATHEDRAL CITY – A 34-year-old Palm Springs woman was arrested on suspicion of running over a woman who was eight months pregnant, killing her and her unborn child, and then leaving the scene.

Gina M. Garcia was arrested around 11 a.m. and booked into the Palm Springs Jail on suspicion of felony hit and run, said Cathedral City police Lt. Glen Haas.

Garcia was later released on $25,000 bail, Haas said.

Danica Denton, 18, who was eight months pregnant, was walking west on East Palm Canyon Drive near Van Fleet Avenue when she was struck by a silver Lexus about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

She and her unborn child were pronounced dead about an hour later at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, Haas said.

The lieutenant said Garcia might face further charges, but the case was still under investigation.
