Driver In Hi-Speed Pursuit In Custody

A pursuit that started west of the Coachella Valley in Rialto and ended 80 miles later with an arrest in Coachella on Interstate 10 clocked speeds of up to 110 miles an hour, CHP said Tuesday.

The pursuit began at around 11:50 a.m. when CHP officers tried pulling over a suspected stolen 2001 white GMC pick-up on Highway 71 near Euclid Avenue near the Chino Hills area.

The driver of the truck did not pull over, leading officers on the pursuit through the 71, eastbound on Highway 60, southbound on Interstate 15, eastbound on Highway 91, southbouond on Interstate 215, and back on Highway 60 eastbound.

CHP said at one point the truck stopped and dropped off a passenger who was arrested shortly after.

The pursuit contiunued on the eastbound Interstate 10 through the San Gorgonio Pass and into the Coachella Valley.

News Channel 3 cameras rolled as a number of law enforcement officers waited for the suspect to pass through setup spike strips at exit points including Indian Canyon Drive, Date Palm Drive, Cook Street, and Highway 86, CHP reported.

It wasn’t until the chase reached I-10 east of Dillon Road that the suspect began giving up.

Highway Patrol officers reported seeing items being thrown out of the vehicle’s window.

“We saw what appeared to be jewelry coming out what appeared to be windows of the car,” said Donovan Rice with the CHP. “When we started up the hill here, the Indio grade, he just pulled over and gave up.”

The driver was identified as Jason Perrone, 39, of Adelanto. He is being held on suspicion of auto theft and failing to stop.
