Woman, 84, Dies Following Four Vehicle Crash In Indio

INDIO- An 84-year-old woman died early Tuesday of internal injuries she suffered hours earlier in a four-vehicle crash in Indio, authorities said.

Maria Espinoza of Indio died at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs at 3:20 a.m., according to the Riverside County coroner’s office.

The crash was reported about 5 p.m. Monday on Jackson Street near Date Avenue, said Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron.

Espinoza, who was a passenger in the second of the four vehicles, reported she was in pain and was taken to a hospital, where doctors treated her for internal injuries, Guitron said. He said a few occupants of the other cars had minor injuries.

Investigators believe speed may have been a factor in the crash, which remained under investigation.
