Homicide Investigated Near Morongo Indian Reservation

CABAZON – A man whose body was found today near the Morongo Indian Reservation in Cabazon appears to be a homicide victim, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Tribal police received a report that a body had been discovered around 2:30 p.m. near Saubel and Morongo roads and went to the scene, said sheriff’s Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez. He said the victim appeared to be between 30 and 40 years old.

Tribal police summoned Riverside County sheriff’s homicide investigators, who determined that the man had suffered trauma to his upper body, according to Gutierrez, who said he could not release any other details about how the man died.

Gutierrez said he did not know if the man was a member of the tribe.

The victim’s name will be released once his family has been notified, according to Gutierrez.
