Unlicensed Driver Crashes SUV Into La Quinta Home

LA QUINTA- A 60-year-old unlicensed driver drove his SUV over a roadway median and into a tree before landing inside a La Quinta home Thursday, but no one was injured, police said.

Miguel Hernandez was driving north on Eisenhower Drive around 10 a.m. when he lost control of his 1991 Ford Explorer, knocked over a tree and crashed through the wall of a house in the 53400 block of the street, said Lt. Raymond Gregory of the La Quinta Police Department.

Hernandez, 60, and a 38-year-old woman sleeping in the back of the house were not injured, Gregory said.

He said Hernandez will be cited for driving without a license. The man told police he “swerved to avoid something or someone in the roadway,” Gregory said.

The lieutenant said there was no indication of alcohol or drugs, but the crash was under investigation.
