Teens Arrested After Robbing Deaf-Mute At Gunpoint

CATHEDRAL CITY – Two valley teens are behind bars for allegedly breaking into a home and robbing a disabled man at gunpoint in Cathedral City Thursday night.

Darius Cabudol, 18, of Palm Springs and a 16-year old juvenile from Cathedral City are accused of a home invasion robbery around 10:30 p.m. on the 33300 block of Shifting Sands Trail.

Cathedral City police say the suspects held a 54-year-old deaf-mute man at gunpoint, then stole the man’s wallet and his car.

The man, who was not hurt, walked across the street to alert neighbors about what had just happened.

“He ran over to the neighbor’s house and rang the bell. He’s deaf, so he wrote everything down. Then, police came,” neighbor Lisa Aguirre said. “He was shaken up, scared. We were all scared.”

Police say around 12:30 a.m., an officer on patrol on La Gaviota Avenue located the two suspects who were identified by the victim.

Police recovered a BB gun used in the robbery and the victim’s car.

Cabudol was taken to the Indio Jail.

The 16-year-old was taken to Juvenile Hall.
