Skinny Dipping To Make History

PALM SPRINGS – They bare it all, take a plunge and swim to the world record.

“This is my first time skinny dipping,” says Jacquelyn Bensinger.

On Saturday at 12 p.m. Pacific Time, about 20 thousand people all around the country stripped down and set the Guinness Book of World Record for the most people simultaneously skinny-dipping.

“It’s so much fun, it’s like being a kid,” says Anita, Vice President of the American Association for Nude Recreation Western Division.

Skinny dipping is a new category for the famous record book, so there is no old record to beat. Still, people here in the desert couldn’t wait for the monumental leap.

“Skinny dipping is an old American tradition,” says Michael Patrick Williams, General Manager of Desert Sun Resort. ” Huck Fin did it, Ben Franklin did it and now we are going to do it.”

Here in the valley dozens swam freely at the Desert Sun Resort. Some were nudists, some risk takers and others just want to make history.

“It’s another notch on the belt,” says Bensinger.

The only criteria here- absolutely no clothes. Once the dip is over the record setters line up to make sure their name goes down in history.

“I think it’s awesome,” says Felicia Hoskinson.

“We will all be able to say, we were there,” says Anita.

For the skinny dippers the plunge means more than an entry in a record book, they hope their stark display exposes a stronger message to the clothed bystanders.

“Naturism, nudism is the best thing in the world,” says Williams.

“We are fine folks having fun, so come on out,” says Anita.
