More Teacher And Program Cuts Expected For PSUSD

PALM SPRINGS – Palm Springs School District Board Members heard quite an earful at Tuesday’sboard meeting. With state budget cuts expected, the board is probably calling for more layoffs and program cutbacks. The board would look to cut a total of $6 million to $11 millionworth of teacher salaries and programs.

The cuts would come after the state budget is finalized and all teacher cuts would have to be final by an August 15th deadline.Right now, what would be on the chopping block is bus transportation for high school students, elementary school P.E. teachers, administration positions and class size increases for high schoolers.

During the meeting, superintendent Lorrie McCune said she doesn’t see things getting better and more cuts could come in March. If things do get worse, athletic programs, music, teachers in grades first throughthird and buses for all grade levels could get the ax.
