Kids Shop Styles While Parents Shop Deals
PALM DESERT – The first day of school is just around the corner. Now, it’s time to load up on supplies and new clothes. When it comes to school shopping, parents and children have two very different opinions on what really matters, but stylish deals can make everyone happy.
When kids and parents head to the stores for back to school shopping, kids know just what they are looking for.
“Skinny jeans and Vans,” Karina Hernandez, a 7th grader, said.
“I’m just looking for good style,” says Trinity Castinada, 4th grader.
While kids look for the most stylish outfits, parents look for discounts. Many say they’ll shop around all day looking for the best deals.
“You can’t just rush out and buy the first thing you see,” says parent Glorie Williams. “You always need to look around.”
“I look for deals, anything cheap in this economy,” says parent Jamie McCain.
Parents say, on average, they spend about $200 to $300 on each kid for back to school shopping. However, through bargain hunting they spend a little more time and a lot less money.
“I got jeans for ten bucks,” says McCain.
Instead of joining the back to school rush during the final weeks of summer, some parents carefully plan their savings strategy.
“I buy all throughout the summer,” says Williams.
This smart shopping leaves kids with more clothes and parents with more money.
“We want the most for our bucks,” says Williams.
