GOOD NEWS: Palm Springs Woman ‘Wipes Out’ On ABC Game Show

PALM SPRINGS – Fitness trainer Nickie Nicolas is used to pushing people’s limits. But on Wednesday night, Nickie gets a piece of her own medicine on national television as a contestant on “Wipeout.”

The game show is based around an obstacle course. Contestants compete for a $50,000 prize.

Nickie says she decided to do it mainly to promote herself and Palm Springs. She went to an audition a few months ago to impress the producers.

“I took my jacket and bared a bicep, and they said ‘ok, we’ll take you!'” she quips.

Nickie had to report for duty at 6:00 a.m. in Santa Clarita where the show is taped. She says 25 other contestants showed up that morning.

Nickie, 45, was the oldest woman there.

“I was scared!” she says. “Those balls on T.V. look small, but when you jump on them, they’re huge!”

She says all of the contestants were crammed into a trailer to wait for their turn on the obstacle course. Some of the players ended up waiting at least eight hours for their turn.

The show’s producers would not allow the contestants to watch each other’s performance.

Nickie will not reveal how well—or how awful—she performed. But, her clients are not surprised about her extreme adventure. A game of physical agility and pressure is what Nickie craves, they say.

“Anything she sets her mind to, she’ll be able to do it!” says Adele Norton, one of Nickie’s clients.

The episode airs Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. on KESQ News Channel 3.
