Roy Wilson Remembered By Colleagues In Palm Desert
RIVERSIDE – Flowers remained at Roy Wilson’s seat during Tuesday county supervisor’s meeting.
And as Riverside County’s firefighters are protecting homes and residents, it’s Fire Chief takes time to remember Supervisor Wilson.
“Every time I used to send a flash report on fires, Supervisor Roy Wilson always responded and said, it was always the same statement with heart, ‘Chief, please thank your firefighters, and tell them I’m proud of their actions,'” says CalFire Chief John Hawkins.
Construction continues on the new fire station and training center in Thousand Palms. It is now being named in his honor.
Tom Freeman with the county’s Economic Development Agency adds, “We’re on time, we’re on schedule. As Supervisor Wilson wanted, we created over 240 jobs at that site.”
It is fitting the new Roy Wilson training center works with College of the Desert students. Roy Wilson was a professor at COD, teaching journalism and mass communications.
The county also decided to rename another Roy Wilson project, the homeless resource center in North Palm Springs.
The public is invited to pay their respects to Supervisor Roy Wilson Tuesday night at Palm Desert Presbyterian Church on Highway 74.
A memorial service begins Wednesday morning at 11 followed by a reception at the church.
Parking is extremely limited and expect delays if you are traveling along Highway 74.
