Santa Answers Letters From Children

Santa’s official post office is ready for business.

Today he opened up shop in the German village of Himmelspfort, which means Heaven’s Gate.

Hundreds of thousands of letters addressed to Father Christmas arrive each year in the village north of Berlin.

While some of the children wish for peace and happiness, most request toys, dolls and the latest gadgets.

A team of Santa’s Elves respond to each and every one, not just in German, but 16 other languages.

Not only do they reply to every single letter, they even send little presents to the children. Last year, the post office received and answered more than 280-thousand letters from children in more than 80 countries.

Most of the letters addressed to Santa at “Christmas post office, 16798 Himmelspfort” come from Germany, but children from Russia, Poland and Scandinavia are also known to have posted their wish lists.

In the past years, even letters from Australia and Japan, as well as some African countries, reached the German village. The Himmelspfort office is one of seven Christmas post office branches in Germany where children can send their letters.
