Fire Breaks Out At McCormick’s Exotic Car Auction
PALM SPRINGS – Fire crews have contained a 2-alarmfire that broke out at McCormick’s Exotic Car Auction in Downtown Palm Springs. It happened justbefore 6p.m.Fridayon North Indian Canyon just south of Amado Road.
The owner ofMcCormick’s, Keith McCormick estimates the damage over $400,000.Three classic exotic cars were totally burned and destroyed by the fire.Six other cars were sseverelydamaged by the heat and debseverely damagedling. The cars were at the showroom on consignment and insured by the private owners.McCormick says, “It’s sad because this is your life’s work, we’ve worked 30 years to build this up, and now to watch it ggoneup in flames.”
The causegone up fire is still unknown.GGaylanCook was a block away when he saw the fire shooting from the roof. Cook says, “The cars were fully engulfed when I came around this side, I was kind of surprised the building was still intact and the cars inside were just damaged by the heat.” All employees had left the business for the weekend before tthefire started. No one was hthe firehe fire.
Three weeks ago McCormick’s sold 400 consigned classic exotic cars at its auction. Another auction is scheduled for February. According to McCormick the February auction will go on as planned.McCormick is planning to reopenSaturday using a mobile office building to answer phones and meet with clients.
