Man Trapped After Car Crashes Through Window

RANCHO MIRAGE -A man waiting in a medical office in Rancho Mirage suffered a broken leg today when an 82-year-old woman accidentally stepped on the accelerator of her car and crashed into the building, a sheriff’s deputy said.

The crash was reported at 11:06 a.m. at the Desert Oasis Healthcare, 71777 San Jacinto Drive, said Deputy Herlinda Valenzuela of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

“She was trying to park, but somehow she hit her gas pedal and ended up crashing into the glass window,” Valenzuela said.

The structure was not damaged, but a glass window, which stretches from the ground to the ceiling of the building, was shattered, according to Valenzuela.

A man in the waiting room was briefly trapped between the car and one of the walls and he was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment of a broken leg, Valenzuela said.

The woman, a Desert Hot Springs resident, was not hurt, but still saw her doctor, she said.

“She made her appointment,” Valenzuela said.
