‘The Last Station’ To Open Film Festival Tonight

PALM SPRINGS -Director Michael Hoffman is expected to attend tonight’s Opening Night Gala screening of “The Last Station” as part of the Palm Springs International Film Festival.

The gala is set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. at Palm Springs High School, 2401 E. Baristo Road.

Actor Paul Giamatti and actress Kerry Condon, along with the film’s producer Bonnie Arnold, are also scheduled to attend the screening.

The film examines the later years of the life of the Russian novelist Leo Tolstoy.

Christopher Plummer plays Tolstoy, while Helen Mirren stars as his wife, Sofya.

Mirren was honored Tuesday with the Career Achievement Award at the festival’s Awards Gala.

The festival, which features more than 150 films from about 60 countries, will run through Jan. 18 at theaters throughout Palm Springs.
