Governor Tours Quake Damaged Humboldt County

EUREKA -Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has completed a survey of damage in the Northern California city of Eureka from last weekend’s magnitude 6.5-earthquake.

The governor spoke after the tour Thursday morning of the city’s historic Old Town, praising local officials for their response and pledging the state’s support.

Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency Tuesday for Humboldt County that paved the way for state assistance.

Eureka was the largest city affected by Saturday’s quake, which resulted in no deaths and only one serious injury.

California Emergency Management secretary Matthew Bettenhausen says officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency have begun assessing damage in the county, joining the effort by state and local officials.
