Rancho Mirage Doctor Heading To Haiti
RANCHO MIRAGE – Doctor Raul Ruiz thanks the volunteers packing last minute medical supplies he’ll use the next few weeks.
He and a group of doctors from around the country are heading to Haiti to help with earthquake relief.
Like many of us, the desperate images of the aftermath inspired Ruiz.
“When this happened I just really couldn’t sleep well at night seeing the horrific images that everybody sees and my heart started bleeding itself so I wanted to do something,” says Ruiz.
Eisenhower Medical Center donated $10,000 in supplies. Boxes and boxes of aid, everything from crutches to antibiotics.
Cardiff Transportation offered to drive those supplies to the airport. Ruiz and the group will meet in Miami before heading into Haiti.
They’ll do a majority of their work at the Port-Au-Prince’s University General Hospital. And they’re prepared to pass over those fatally injured.
“You’re gonna have to bypass them because you have to treat those that have a chance and work on those,” says Ruiz. “It’s gonna break my heart and it’s gonna change me.”
Ruiz and Eisenhower Medical Center organized their relief effort in a matter of 2 days.
He hopes to get into the country by the end of the week.
Andhe’ll have a message when he getsthere.
“When I land, when I get there as well as writing it on the box, ‘To the people of Haiti, from the people of the Coachella Valley with love,'” says Ruiz.
